Katrina Lehis Fitness Training
How many conditional trainings you have in a week?
Depends on the week but I do quite a lot of that kind of excersises.
Do you have a dedicated fitness trainer?
I have a physio who helps me and my coach is also a bit like my fitness trainer.
What do you like the most and what is your least favorite part in conditional training?
I think I don't have the least and the most favourite. All of these exercises are quite hard, but I enjoy them, because of these, I can see my body develop.
What are your strengths and weaknesses in this type of training?
I don't know about strenghts, to say so. But I think my weakness is that I must feel the particular muscle I do an excersise for and it can be difficult at first to realize how to use that muscle.
What kind of tools do you use if any (e.g. kettle bell, power band…etc.)?
I use power bands, stuffed ball, balance bads..
What do you do to prevent injuries?
I do many different exercises, to strengthen my body, so I would have as less injuries as possible. And stretching is also very important for preventing injuries.
I also use help from a physiotherapist who does massage and gives advice, what to do and how.
Have you ever had a serious injury/operation? If yes, how long did it take to get back in shape?
My most serious injury was when my meniscus broke. I had a surgery where they stiched it back together.
After about 5 months, I won Junior World Championships.. So somehow, it had a good effect on me.. :)
What do you think about the importance of physical condition of fencers nowadays and before? Has it changed a lot? How dominant is it in fencing?
Since fencing is becoming faster and stronger all the time, especially men's fencing but also women's, I think physical condition is very very important.
I think it has changed quite a bit. And I think that if You want a long and as successful carreer as possible,You have to have very good physical condition. Because fencing is so much focusing on one side of the body, it is important to do exercises to the other side too, so the muscles would be evenly trained. Which also prevents injuries a lot, in my opinion.
